BABYBLU
The Last Memento
The documentary (55 min) tells the story of the Šabanović family, who fled from Bosnia - Herzegovina to Switzerland 30 years ago. We accompany the family on their journey to places of remembrance in Bosnia and to places of daily life in Switzerland, as we ask them about their cultural identity and sense belonging.
The common thread throughout the film is the family's only pre-war keepsake: the eldest son Alen’s romper suit. In cooperation with the War Childhood Museum Sarajevo, the romper becomes a museum exhibit - a symbol for children around the world who are unable to grow up in their parents' country due to war and political unrest .
BABYBLU is a deeply personal and emotional film based on the true story of the Šabanović family. At the same time, it stands as an universal example of displacement – a subject more relevant today than ever. The film fosters understanding of the causes of migration and encourages people to reflect on their own migration histories and see them as part of Swiss history.
BABYBLU is a work by Edith Werffeli, recipient of the Cultural Studies Fellowship from the Landis and Gyr Foundation.
